Growth begins here.
Before I became a social worker, I worked as a music therapist for several years, and though I no longer practice music therapy, people often ask me what, if anything, I bring with me into my psychotherapy practice from my music therapy training.
My answer is this: different from music performance, music therapy does not care about the end-result. What the music sounds like is wholly unimportant, but the process of making music with another person is crucial.
Esther Perel says, "The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives." This is the most salient guiding principle in my work, and I wholeheartedly believe that meaningful relationships are not something we accomplish, they are something we do. They are not an end-result at which we can arrive, but a process in which we participate.
It is one of the great joys of my life to engage in this process with so many people through my work, and it would be an honor to have the opportunity to experience that process with you.
